How can we help?

My market order is not getting executed immediately. Why is this so?

Market orders are usually executed immediately at the best available price. However, in some rare cases, your order may remain unfilled due to the following reasons:

1. Trading Halt

A trading halt is a temporary suspension of trading for a specific security. During this period, no buy or sell orders can be executed. If your order is placed during a halt, it will stay in Pending status until trading resumes.

You can check for trading halts on the official exchange websites (e.g. NASDAQ, NYSE, SGX, or HKEX).

2. Low Market Liquidity (Low Volume)

Your order may not be filled if the security is thinly traded or illiquid. This is common when:

  • The stock has low trading volume, or
  • You place a large order that exceeds available shares at the current market price.

In such cases, your order remains Pending until liquidity improves or the market closes.

What can I do?

  • Use a limit order to set the price you are comfortable with.
  • Check the stock’s trading volume and bid-ask spread before placing an order.
