Foreign exchange (FX) rates can impact how your portfolio value appears — especially when your investment and funding currencies differ.
Why does the value of my deposited amount look different?
If you funded your portfolio in SGD but the portfolio is USD-denominated, your funds will be converted at the prevailing FX rate at the time your investment is processed. Before your funds in SGD are converted to USD, you will see an estimated USD value under Transactions > Funds Inflow (EST.).
However, the portfolio value you see on your dashboard is based on the latest FX rate recorded in our system — usually the market closing rate from the previous business day — which may differ from your actual conversion rate. Once processed, the actual conversion rate can be found via the Transactions section.
Example:
- You transfer SGD 500, which gets converted to USD 385 at a rate of 1 USD = 1.30 SGD.
- On your dashboard, the displayed FX rate is 1 USD = 1.25 SGD.
- Your USD 385 is then shown as SGD 481 — even though your full SGD 500 was invested (Note: a small amount of your deposit is kept as cash balance, refer here for more information).
Please be assured that:
- No fees are deducted before your funds are invested.
- Your full deposit amount is always converted and invested accordingly.
Which portfolios are affected by exchange rate movements?
USD-denominated portfolios (e.g. Core, Select, Cash+ Flexi USD, Downside Protected Portfolio, Cash+ Guaranteed USD portfolio)
These portfolios are generally USD-denominated, so if you fund them in SGD, exchange rate fluctuations will affect your portfolio's displayed value and returns. This impact is commonly referred to as currency impact.
SGD-denominated portfolios (e.g. Cash+ Flexi SGD, Cash+ Guaranteed SGD, REIT+)
These portfolios are invested in SGD-denominated assets, so exchange rate movements will not affect their value if you're also funding in SGD.
Where can I view exchange rates used?
- The current FX rate applied to your portfolio is visible on your Syfe dashboard.
- The FX conversion rate used for your specific deposit can be found in your portfolio transaction details.
